Dawson’s appointment to the 51st Precinct of the 2nd Ward, April 10, 1928.
While in Chicago, Dawson studied music theory, public speaking, and English at Crane Junior College and took several courses at the Chicago Musical College. He also was appointed to serve as a “Deputy” during Chicago’s 1928 primary elections in Cook County, Illinois. In this capacity, he was present at the 51st Precinct of the Second Ward’s polling place throughout the day to assure the fairness of the election.
