Session One: Race and Identity in Twenty-First Century Music Making.
Professor Rae Linda Brown asks what connects Dawson with the composers who comprise her panel--Ollie Wilson, Anthony Davis, Bill Banfield, Tania Leon, and Alvin Singleton, and suggests that "cultural memory" is the answer. She goes on to talk about the transfer of knowledge from generation to generation. She also gives a brief biography of Florence Price, one of Dawson's contemporaries.
