Session One: Race and Identity in Twenty-First Century Music Making.
Dwight Andrews welcomes the audience and speakers and provides an overview of the three-day journey that awaits them. He also sets the tone for the conference, introducing many of its major interdisciplinary themes, particularly the meaning of "race and identity at the beginning of the 21st Century." Within this larger theme, Andrews raises questions concerning what race and identity mean with regards to "new means of cultural production, new ways of thinking about our cultural geography, and new ideas about what it means to create and to produce music."
