Teaching Moments:
The Use of Manuscripts, Archives, and Rare Books in the Classroom

Manuscripts, archives, and rare books provide valuable insight into cultural, political, economic, and social issues in historical context. However, many students and teachers may be unfamiliar with the content of archival holdings in their regional libraries and uncertain how to integrate such materials into the classroom. We have included the "teaching moments" section of this website in an attempt to offer examples of discussion questions and resources for further research on selected materials from our collections in Southern and Women's History. These "teaching moments" are meant as suggestions and starting points for the integration of archival materials in the classroom. Other web resources on the integration of archives in classroom settings are available on our "Additional Resources" page.
